Polestar has given the 2 range a stylist’s make over for model year 2027. One branch is gone, the prices that matter have been left alone, and the top car finally gets a couple of items they always deserved, included..
The Polestar 2 arrives in Australia in the middle of 2026 with the Standard range Single motor removed from the local line-up. Ain’t nobody got time for that. That means buyers now start at the lovely, leggy, Long range Single motor, priced at $66,400 MSRP. So yes, pricing is unchanged on the surviving grades, but the entry point has quietly shuffled upward because the cheaper car has been sent to Coventry.
That is the sort of move car brands make when the buyer has already voted with their wallet. Polestar says customers prefer longer driving range, well dur! And quite right too. Nobody shelling out several shekels on a premium EV wants to feel they shuffled onto a lazy susan only to get off on Poverty Street. ,In short, short range, short end of the resale stick. Do I need to get Sweet Brown in again for another blast of “nobody got time for that”? Oh, I think so (Patsy got all the best lines).

What changes for MY27
The hero change is on the top shelf.
Buyers of the lusty Long range Dual motor with Performance pack now get piercing Pixel LED headlights and the booming Bowers and Wilkins premium sound gratis. Well, not exactly gratis because drive away you little Swede near nearing the Hundy. in that gorgeously understated Swedish way, Polestar says “that adds $5100 in value”, and for once a car maker doesn’t mean a spot of lippy fur collar. Those are two options people might genuinely want. By that I mean the sound and sight, not the lippy and fur, because that would be “a bit previous” (as my sainted great aunty Ag used to say).
The Bowers and Wilkins system transmogrifies sound into a near spiritual experience, it’s not just an expensive sticker on an even more expensive speaker grille. Although, it is definitely both of those things as well. Image a 14-speaker set-up with 1350 watts of thump, plus a delicious little Tweeter-on-Top technology and Continuum midrange speakers. Come on, doesn’t that sound as if Picard is about gesture dramatically forward while saying, “engage”. It all creates an atmosphere that discerning buyers expect. if they’re spending north of eighty grand on a sexy Scandi fastback EV, he probably does care whether the sound Is fit for a Valkyrie or merely Brünnhilde with bronchitis.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon infotainment processor introduced for MY26 carries over as well, which matters more than some brands like to admit or can afford. A premium EV with a laggy screen is like a Valhallan dinner party where Akvavit is a bit past its best by. The basics may be there, but frankly darl, the mood is ruined.
Pricing on the three remaining variants does not change.
Polestar 2 Long range Single motor is $66,400.
Polestar 2 Long range Dual motor is $71,400.
Polestar 2 Long range Dual motor with Performance pack, including the Plus pack, is $85,080.
That last one now looks a bit more complete straight out of the box, which is how a flagship should feel.
The options list still has form – pardon the pun.
Polestar has not abandoned the post-modern premium habit of turning the options sheets ATMs. It has merely kept the clicks count contained.
The Plus pack is $4700 and brings the fixed panoramic glass roof, powered front seats with lumbar support, memory for the driver (but all drivers should have memory surely), seat base extensions, storage nets, and a 600W Harman Kardon sound system. Posh, just not a 1% as the top model. The Performance pack is $8980 and still requires the Plus pack. Dear god why? Just say “Performance pack costs X (includes Plus Pack). That gets you the performance software upgrade, 20-inch wheels, Polestar Engineered chassis tuning, Brembo brakes, Ohlins Dual Flow Valve dampers, and the Swedish gold accents that let the neighbours know you spent up. The gold alone is with the click.
There is also a Pro pack for $1900, a Climate pack for $1500, and the Pilot pack remains a standard inclusion with Pilot Assist and Emergency Stop Assist. Polestar’s options still read like a crazed flow chart done by chimps with red crayons.
And, we’re done. No we aren’t. Although not steak knives, wait, there’s more. Single options include Pixel LED adaptive headlights for $1600, privacy glass for $500, a 24-month Connected services plus extension for $340, and the Bowers and Wilkins system for $3500 if you are buying a lower grade and have already added the Plus pack. I need a bex and a lie down.
Yet, there is one line left on the sheet. Leather trims remain on offer too, with Bridge of Weir upholstery in Zinc for $4800 or Charcoal at $4400, both requiring the Plus pack.
Why this matters
This is not a skin-stretching real-housewives facelift for Polestar 2. It is a wee tidy-up. A spot of sharpening. A polite little reminder that the she is still here, still relevant, and still temping buyers who want their EV with a touch less Elon and a touch more Georg.
The axing of the Standard range Single motor tells you where the Australian market has drifted. Buyers want range, and brands know it. The extra standard gear on the flagship tells you something else. We’ve gotten posher. Polestar knows premium buyers are increasingly hard to impress when Chinese rivals are lobbing gadgets, luxury, and battery size into the segment like confetti at a very expensive divorce. Hang on, isn’t Polestar owned by Geely? Oh I say that’s rather cheeky.
So MY27 Polestar 2 is a little dearer to enter, a little stronger at the top, and otherwise the same beauty we already know, and yes, love. It is a sweety pie that almost feels vintage in that houndstooth scarf kind of way. Good taste never goes out of fashion. There are worse ways to age.
Polestar says MY27 Polestar 2 is available to order now via Polestar.com, with every car backed by a darling little five-year vehicle warranty and comforting complimentary roadside assist.
If you were eyeing the flagship, this is the neatest bit of the update. If you wanted the cheaper base car, what can I say, tough titties. Like ma Sheela, she has left the building.
If you’re wondering why I’ve drifted off-piste, I hope you followed all the lovely little links. This darling little car deserves attention damnit and we may as well be entertaining whilst doing it.
