Before you get too excited. Although we have driven All New Nissan Qashqai, es ist verboten to speak of it. Our full review with drive impressions drops on the 12th of January. Why? Because Nissan is trying to get the most bang for its buck. 4 models have been launched, and as we slip into the dying embers of 2022 (and good riddance, may it never darken our door again), the last of them was given a once-over by the motoring media. Qashqai broke cover with a big, blusy, bang.

in 20 years, Qashqai chalked up 131,000 sales including those under the Dualis nameplate, and 5,000,000 worldwide or the samwe period. Nissan has done a slider this year, with total sales down roughly 1/3 (23,951 to Nov ‘22 vs 38,558 for 2021). The range needed revamping, desperately.

What has the new model got that the old model didn’t?

Technology, technology, technology, darlinks. Having said that, it is nothing more astounding than that which is found in other marques, it is just that there are many firsts for Qashqai .

1: Matrix LED Headlights.

2:  Head Up Display

3: Wireless CarPlay

3: 1.3L 4cyl engine

4: Pro Pilot

5: Digital Dash

6: 12.3” infotainment

7: Enhanced safety systems

8: Better CVT

9: Stronger, more rigid body

10: Better fuel figures

The Cabin:

The interior design speaks fluently of the new Nissan language, with soft, flowing lines, delicious surfacing, and equipment far above its predecessor. In fact, the new model makes the old model look like camping.

The top model is the one with the bells and whistles. The quilted seats take an hour’s worth of stitching each, and have a massage and heating function. They move with the touch of a button, and the driver gets easy-exit with the seat sliding out of the way.

Bose sound is excellent, but Android users are sans wireless capability. What is all this nonsense? Fear not, a cable will charge Android users while they stream. Wireless CarPlay saps the battery like a drag queen at an all-you-can-drink-buffet. Thankfully, the 15w Qi phone pad is a blessing beyond belief.

What Could Be Better

What the buggery-bollocks is any car maker doing saddled with one of those god-awful monstrosities masquerading  “gear-shifting”. And, that is my last word on the matter. Except to say, that at least it is not as bad as CVTs of old. I know those comments will upset some, but some punters won’t even notice, or care, that it isn’t a conventional automatic transmission.

The Digital dashboards, HUD, Qi charging, and wireless Apple CarPlay should be standard across the range, and it wouldn’t kill Nissan to have the Matrix lights on the pov models as well.
