Like other Volvos, EX30 takes Volvo’s Scandinavian ‘living room’ concept, the ubiquitous safety features, the latest generation of Apple CarPlay, and voice-activated Google functionalities to a new level.

Volvo has already committed to being fully electric by 2030, so EX30 is 100% electric.

All 3 models will use a high-voltage 69kWh 400V lithium-ion battery. There is a 200kW/343Nm single motor Extended range, and twin motor 315kW/543Nm Performance AWD versions.

Range is expected to be 480km for the single motor and 460km for the dual motor cars. Charging is around 30 minutes to get from 10% to 80%

Volvo (and sister company Polestar) now aim to be as sustainable as possible, and EX30 is the most sustainable Volvo model ever produced. It has a leather-free interior is replete with recycled and renewable materials like flax and wool, with denim upholstery created from the waste fibres of the denim recycling process.

Front and centre is a 12.3- inch tablet screen as the infotainment, settings, and control system. It serves as the solo display, so no other driver data, not even an HUD.

Colours

Volvo EX30 has Onyx Black metallic roof with:

  • Moss Yellow
  • Cloud Blue
  • Vapour Grey
  • Crystal White,
  • Onyx Black.

Thor’s Hammer headlights

‘Thor’s Hammer’ has been updated in EX30 to have a segmented design, extra width, and a narrower look. The rear lamp design has two sections in flush with the car body, to be both stylish, and highly visible even in terrible climates.

A glass roof appears in several Volvo’s giving a load of light.

Soundbar speaker as standard

Volvo EX30’s soundbar has integrated tweeters, mid-range speakers and a woofer using the full width of the dashboard for that home audio feeling (and sound). It means there are no speakers in the doors.

New driver display just like a smartphone

EX30 has a new 12.3” tablet that has the now-familiar Google built-in apps that works similarly to a smartphone. Buyers of Volvo and Polestar did without Carplay for the longest time, but Volvo has leapfrogged straight into the Wireless Apple CarPlay environment. EX30 also uses Over The Air updates. Has Volvo made the same mistake as Tesla? Looking towards the centre for driver data is incredibly distracting.

Ergonomic seats

Volvo has always been a bit ahead of the curve for integrating safety and comfort. EX30 seats have extra thigh support, and integrated front seat head rests. Adding a rather classy note, the backs of the front seats are upholstered in the same material as the seats instead of a hideous field of black plastic. The slim design aims for more legroom those in the back.

air quality

The two-zone climate system helps keep nasty smells and materials outside, where they belong. In an added touch of tech-meets-need, cabin air, monitored via the Volvo EX30 smart phone app, can be even cleaned before entering the cabin.

Cabin storage

EX30 has a multi-storage unit at the floor, and a smart sliding console with cupholders and a storage box. The soundbar leaves the doors free with pockets large enough for useful storage.

EX30 and your mobile

EX30 has a digital key using NFC (Near Field Communication) in the smartphone. Once downloaded, the smartphone swiped on the NFC readers gives drivers full access.

“We are proud to introduce the EX30 to Australia which embodies Volvo’s distinctive Scandinavian design values, advanced safety, legendary comfort and cutting-edge tech in a smaller format,” said Stephen Connor, Managing Director of Volvo Car Australia.

“With the EX30 we enter a new, growing segment – the small, fully electric luxury SUV. The EX30 offers a strong value proposition to a new audience in the Australian car market which is increasingly embracing EVs.”

“The EX30 will further drive our accelerated Australian strategy of being an all- electric car company by 2026.”
