ANCAP released the latest crash test results ahead of the new testing and rating regime for 2023
Results for Land Rover Range Rover, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Nissan X-Trail and Toyota Corolla Cross getting a five-star safety ratings tick based on 2020-2022 criteria.
All petrol, diesel and PHEV variants of the three-row Range Rover, and the Range Rover Sport got five-stars.
They scored full points scored for adult and child protection in the side impact test and for the driver in the oblique pole tests. AEB car-to-car and AEB car-to-pedestrian (forward) did well, reverse pedestrian detection and braking is not available. Furthermore, even though centre airbag is not available in either range, the distance between front passengers was enough for them to also score well in that test.

Like 5-star Nissan Qashqai, Nissan X-Trail has the same high level of active safety performance, giving a 97 % result. Child Occupant Protection scored 90%. X-Trail’s rating applies to all petrol and hybrid models.
The highest scoring model in the area of Vulnerable Road User is the Toyota Corolla Cross with 87%i. Side impact and oblique pole tests gave good marks, as did the majority of autonomous emergency braking, emergency lane keeping and lane keep assist test scenarios.
Toyota Corolla Cross scored Marginal results for the chest of the driver in the frontal offset test. It was given a penalty for far side impact protection in the absence of manufacturer data confirming the results for occupants of 3 varying sizes.
“As we approach the end of this 2020-2022 protocol period and look ahead to a broadened test regime from 2023, it is pleasing to see a continued high level of safety performance offered from a range of brands,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg.
NOTE: Previous highest Vulnerable Road User Protection score to 2020-2022 criteria was 84 % (Subaru Outback).
