Mitsubishi has just unveiled the latest update to its flagship Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), set to hit European roads in spring 2025. While it’ll arrive in Japanese showrooms this autumn, the rest of us will have to wait a bit longer—but from the sounds of it, the wait will be well worth it.
Described as a blend of “I-Fu-Do-Do”—Japanese for “authentic and majestic”—this latest model isn’t just a simple update. Mitsubishi has taken their already popular plug-in hybrid SUV and added more class, power, and sophistication. Those strong, muscular lines remain, but now it’s even sleeker, with an EV range extending beyond 80 km on a full charge. That’s roughly a 20% boost, offering drivers a longer electric-only range, perfect for the daily commute without dipping into the petrol tank.
But it’s not just about extra battery life. Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system gets an upgrade as well, promising better handling and a ride that feels smoother than ever. With updated suspension, new tyres, and Mitsubishi’s twin-motor 4WD system, the Outlander PHEV is equally at home navigating winding country roads or tackling urban traffic.

Inside, the tech upgrades are just as impressive. Drivers now get a ubiquitous 12.3-inch display handling navigation and connectivity, while the audio system, designed in collaboration with Yamaha, promises top-tier sound quality. It’s the kind of refinement that makes even your morning commute feel like a premium experience, and that buyers now expect as standard.
Comfort gets a boost too. Mitsubishi has introduced seat ventilation for those hot Aussie summers, and overall, the cabin feels more luxurious than before. It’s a seven-seater, just like the previous model, so there’s plenty of space for the family, friends, or weekend gear.
While Europe will see the updated Outlander PHEV first, both PHEV and petrol models are set to receive similar updates in markets like Australia, New Zealand, and North America shortly after. With over 370,000 units sold globally, Mitsubishi is simply refining what’s already proven to be a hit.
So, whether you’re navigating wet city streets or embarking on a road trip through the outback, the new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV brings more power, more comfort, and a touch of luxury—ready for whatever adventure comes next.
The completely redesigned model launched at the end of 2021, with more than 370,000 vehicles selling over two generations. Today, the Outlander PHEV remains the world’s best-selling plug-in hybrid 4WD SUV.
