Gay campers have long loved the big Volkswagen SUVs for their flexibility and looks, and it goes with saying that their hot hatches have a firm place in gay car enthusiasts’ hearts.

The Passat 206 TSI 4MOTION R-line Wagon should put the cat among the pigeons. For those not wanting an SUV, the Passat is a proper AWD companion to a gay-camping weekend. There is a ton of space inside a tasteful wrap of class and elegance.

Golf 7.5 wagon sold out and the MK 8 isn’t due until 2022, which will be followed by Arteon Shooting Brake in 140 and 206. The latter comes with 4Motion AWD.

Next year the Tiguan R, T-Roc r, and Golf MK8  wagon land on our shores.

VW’s Jeff Shafer is VW Australia’s manager of Products and services. He said “Wagons remain important to Volkswagen customers,” he says. “We’re not suggesting that these vehicles will sell in Tiguan numbers, but there remains an expectation that Volkswagen can supply a lower-riding alternative – especially in high-specification, fast, 4MOTION form.”

The Passat is bigger than Tiguan, with oodles more space inside. Not only that, it is a bigger, more comfortable Golf R wagon.

VW has placed 600 Passats in police service. The Passats replaced less responsive models of other brands. Volkswagen says there is “no better endorsement than that of our front line police officers. It’s great to have this car back.”
