EV sceptics, take note: a new report from The Car Expert (UK), in partnership with Clear Vehicle Data, confirms that electric cars in 2025 aren’t just cheaper to run – they’re also significantly cheaper to service. According to the UK’s leading automotive consumer advice platform, servicing an electric vehicle will cost British drivers 29% less over five years compared to a petrol, diesel, or hybrid equivalent.
Pulling data from over 600 models currently on sale, the report analysed millions of data points across every variant imaginable – trims, transmissions, body styles, and more – making this the most detailed comparison of servicing costs ever released in the UK. And the results are eye-opening: EVs were cheaper to service in 95% of direct model comparisons.
Why? Fewer moving parts, no oil changes, and less routine wear-and-tear make EVs a mechanic’s nightmare but a driver’s dream. Examples like the Vauxhall Corsa Electric and Fiat 500e show savings of over 30% compared to their petrol siblings. Even the all-new MINI Countryman EV cuts servicing costs by 22% from years three to five.

With EVs already dominating over 20% of new car sales in 2025, the long-term savings are shifting perceptions. As Stuart Masson, Editorial Director at The Car Expert, says: “Servicing might not be sexy, but it’s where EVs shine.”
Whether you’re a city dweller sipping soy lattes or a fleet manager juggling spreadsheets, the data is clear: EVs are winning the value race.
