Kia’s Daring New Look Sportage Revealed

After teaser images, and a “brand relaunch,” Kia has finally given us a first look at the new Sportage small SUV. Kia keeps to a 6 year product cycle, with a mid-life refresh, or as they call it, “product Enhancement”.

We often comment on canny gay buyers loving the unusual, unique, or classy. Brands are an important consideration, and Kia seems to have shrugged off its cheap and cheerful image.

Outside:

Newer Kias such as Sorento, Seltos and Carnival set a tone for the new design direction, inside and out. The front and rear have complex light clusters including sweeping DTRLs. The side profiles highlighted by sharp character lines connecting through to the light clusters as they wrap round the body.

Car makers talk about a “powerfully dynamic stance” which means nothing to most people. In this case Sportage has graceful lines connecting front and back, and a broad masculine rear end.

Inside:

The cabin expands on the design language from Sorento.

A digital dash and central tablet follow a gentle curve to envelope the driver, and the centre console has a raise “ergonomic” command module which include the electronic dial for gear selection.

The extensive use of glossy plastic elevates the interior to give it a touch of luxury, matching her bigger sisters. The front seats have slim headrests with integrated “hanger-type designs”.

The new Sportage will have a new X-Line model with specially designed bumper. It comes with unique sills and a curved roof rack. The cabin has Sage Green or Black seats with quilting or black metal wood highlights.

Kia says Sportage will launch later in the year so will drip feed further details closer to the time. It is worth noting that some of the features might very depending on what country you’re in, but Sportage looks to capture new buyers as the distinctive looks continue to turn heads.

The recently refreshed Cerato remains the Korean carmaker’s biggest seller, but the future for SUVs will no doubt see bigger, bolder, boxier vehicles completely dominate the industry. Coupe, hatches, and sedans look set to make a graceful yet gradual exit.
