Finally, the 2024 IONIQ 5 includes an “ affordable” model with a smaller battery, less power, and in rear wheel drive.
That might not sound like a lot, but it slips the Hyundai EV in under levels that allow EV subsidies. Some states are reducing the offsets for EVs, and this short-sighted move in such states as NSW is seen as a bad move at a time when the world is facing calamity. Incentives include: government subsidies and stamp duty exemptions, but only in selected states and territories across Australia.
Gay buyers have flocked to EV ownership like boozy ducks to a champagne pond. They know a good thing when they see it. Some still see tesla as the EV to own, but the American company no longer has the electric car revolution to itself. In fact, some might even say tesla has fallen a little behind. Hyundai has seen fit to add fancy digital rear-view mirrors on the centre and sides of the front cabin, and the is a digital display for the driver, in front of their eyes, where it belongs.
2024 IONIQ 5 will be a comfortable as ever, but brings the price down a smidge.

Buyers of the brand-new entry model 2024 IONIQ 5 can choose a Standard Range 58 kWh battery with a respectable 384 km (WLTP) range, or the existing Extended Range 77.4 kWh battery. Remember, the smaller the battery, the lighter the car. If you don’t need the extra range, why pay for it?
2024 IONIQ 5 entry level models offer a new eco-friendly cabin replete with seats upholstered in eco-friendly wool blend yarn with eco-processed leather bolsters. Hyundai has bought the wool of an Australian sheep’s back, making a 30% wool yarn and polyester blend fabric. Hyundai claims a 24% CO2 reduction when compared to regular polyester seat coverings. They could have saved even more if the seat covering was all-Australian wool, but hey-ho.
Hyundai has seen the light, with the 2024 IONIQ 5 has digital centre rear-view and side mirrors, depending on the model and option purchased. Details can be found in the Digital Mirror Package.
“An enhanced line-up for 2024 IONIQ 5 makes our multi-award-winning EV even more appealing and accessible to customers, accelerating progress towards our vision for clean mobility,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Ted Lee.
