Polestar 7 to be Built at Volvo’s Kosice Plant in Slovakia

Polestar has announced that its next-generation electric SUV, the Polestar 7, will be manufactured in Europe for the first time, under a new memorandum of understanding with Volvo Cars. The premium compact SUV, slated for launch in 2028, will be built at Volvo’s upcoming all-electric factory in Kosice, Slovakia – a facility still under construction but already positioned as a key player in Europe’s electric vehicle boom.

In a move that tightens the Geely family ties, Polestar 7 will ride on Volvo architecture, sharing cutting-edge tech like cell-to-body battery integration, mega-casting, and next-gen e-motors. But don’t worry, Polestar fans — she’ll still strut her stuff with distinct styling and that signature sporty character. Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, says the deal strengthens the brand’s European presence while leveraging cost efficiencies from shared group components.

The Kosice site is a strategic gem, forming a European production triangle alongside Volvo’s Belgian and Swedish plants. With a 250,000-unit annual capacity and climate-neutral intentions, it marks Volvo’s EUR 1.2 billion pledge to a net-zero future. Expect Polestar 7 to share a tech stack with Volvo’s EX90, EX60, and ES90 models, including OTA updates baked into the Superset software architecture.

This partnership reflects a broader trend of EV consolidation, where sexy Scandinavian design meets Slovakian assembly lines — and somewhere in there, a drag brunch-worthy SUV is born.
