Picture this: it’s a crisp October morning in Cambridgeshire, and there’s a buzz in the air that’s not just from the classic engines purring in the distance. The Imperial War Museum, Duxford, is the stage for H&H Classics’ grand finale of 2024, where over 160 vehicles, dripping with nostalgia and petrol-powered glory, will roll under the hammer. It’s not just a sale, darling — it’s a love letter to 120 years of motoring history.
With a combined value of over £6.5 million, this is a collector’s playground. Whether you’re looking to snag a six-figure Jaguar or hoping to land a bargain on something without reserve, this auction has it all. According to James McWilliam, sales manager at H&H Classics, the Duxford auctions always pull a crowd, and with a line-up this fabulous, it’s not hard to see why.
For the British at heart, it’s a smorgasbord of homegrown heroes. We’re talking twenty Jaguars, sixteen Bentleys, seven Rolls-Royces, and enough Aston Martins to make you feel like James Bond on a weekend getaway. And speaking of Bond, can we talk about the 2001 Aston Martin Vanquish? It’s the first car to ever grace the M6 Toll road, and was even featured by Pierce Brosnan to promote Die Another Day. Estimated at £50,000-£70,000, it’s begging to be driven by someone who feels like a spy, even if their only secret mission is sneaking off to the shops.

But the stars of the show don’t stop there. A 1957 Bentley S1 Continental Park Ward Drophead Coupé Adaption is poised to steal hearts and wallets, with an estimated value between £300,000 and £400,000. For those who like their classics with a bit of va-va-voom, there’s also a 1980 pre-production Lotus Esprit ‘Essex’ Turbo. This beauty, fitted with Formula One-style Active Suspension, is thought to be the first car ever to have this ground-breaking technology. I mean, is there a cooler way to spend £70,000-£80,000?
Of course, we can’t forget the celebrity connections. One of the lots includes a no-reserve 1967 Jaguar Mark X 4.2, once purchased by the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna, for her son Rocco. Meanwhile, a 1970 Ford Escort Mexico, the oldest known survivor from Ford’s Advanced Vehicle Operations, is expected to go for £60,000-£70,000. If that doesn’t get the car nerds foaming at the mouth, I don’t know what will.
For those with a more sophisticated taste, a 1930 Bugatti Type 46 Weymann Coach, estimated between £300,000 and £350,000, promises to inject some 1930s elegance into your collection. Or perhaps the 1962 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 litre ‘Semi-Lightweight’ Coupe, predicted to go for £120,000-£160,000, is more your speed. After all, if you’re going to channel your inner Steve McQueen, you may as well do it in style.
Whether you’re there for the history, the horsepower, or just the chance to feel the excitement in the air, Duxford’s final auction of the year is bound to be an event for the ages. Fancy placing a bid? You can do it in person, online, by phone, or through a commission bid. All lots will be available to view from midday on the 8th of October and from 9am on the 9th before the gavel starts swinging at 1pm.
Get the details on all the cars and register to bid at H&H Classics. Just be sure to leave some room in the garage.
