Chargefox has announced that Australian Motoring Services (AMS) has acquired 100% of Chargefox and its operations. Chargefox is the biggest EV charging infrastructure company in the country, and runs its own charge points as well as managing those owned by other entities.

The new owners promise to increase the expansion of Chargefox’s network. However, EV drivers will already be aware of the maintenance difficulties, with many outlets out of service. Ultra-fast 350kw outlets are rare, and have suffered disproportionately.

Chargefox has the biggest and fastest growing open charging network in Australia, with charging stations in Australia and New Zealand. Chargefox began operations in late 2017, more than 500,000 charging sessions having been recorded via its iPhone and Android mobile apps.

The acquisition target aims for 5,000 EV chargers, with 2,000 being fast and/or ultra-rapid charging speeds (allowing you to charge to 80% or more during a coffee break).

For those claiming otherwise, Chargefox sources renewable energy to power its chargepoints.
Chargefox’s will continue to manage the business, with a mission to reduce road transport emissions to zero. The renewably-sourced energy has allowed Chargefox to provide more than 14 million carbon-free kms, meaning more than 4,000 tonnes of CO2 has been kept out of the environment.  This is the equivalent of keeping more than 2 million kilos of coal out of the system.

The AMS investment gives Chargefox the impetus to build out the EV charging infrastructure needed to allow mass adoption of EVs and help create a cleaner backbone for a cleaner future. Chargefox has multiple partnerships with car manufacturers with many carmakers offering free charging for a fixed period.

It is worth noting that Chargefox recently increased ultra-rapid charging rates by around 50% to 60c p/Kwh.
