Boutique Suzuki to Bring Cute Fronx SUV to Australia

The Australian SUV Market is awash with offerings big and small, good and bad, cute and ugly, dull and interesting, and it is the place to be for a car maker to survive and thrive, regardless. Suzuki has been there, and they’ve been doing it well for a very long time.

With that in mind, Suzuki’s All New Suzuki Fronx will be making a debut in Australian showrooms. First of all, what a very strange name. I suspect a bunch of execs spit-balled the name after a night on the lash, turning up at the design meeting somewhat underprepared.

Suzuki is using the all-new Fronx as a “new-genre SUV” that is part coupe, part SUV, and part hatchback. We’ve heard this claim before. Suffice to say it will slide into that SUV segment for folk who don’t fancy the bulk of a fully formed off-roader, but like a higher driver position and a little extra headspace.

There is a certain sacrifice one has to make for the benefit of that coupe look. The rear end lacks the space of a big square rump to lend itself to a svelte and petite profile. Suzuki uses words like “stance”, and ”dynamic”, and “flowing”, to set the buyer expectation of something utterly ground breaking. If the pictures are anything to go by, ground breaking might be a stretch, but it is reasonably handsome. It eschews the likes of Vitara’s boxy bosom in favour of something a single occupant isn’t going to look lost in.

Apart from the slightly outlandish claims that the exterior is in some way ground breaking, Suzuki claims that Fronx has a high-quality interior which makes efficient use of space. That remains to be seen. It has been issued with standard gear such as a 360 view camera, head up display, wireless charger and rear-seat air conditioning vents, which Suzuki have made a song and dance about. It sounds pretty standard to me.

Suzuki Australia General Manager – Automobile, Mr. Michael Pachota said the introduction of the Fronx will be another steppingstone for Suzuki in Australia to solidify its presence in the Light SUV Segment.

“With the launch of the all new Fronx, we’re combining unique sporty styling with SUV heritage, to deliver an exciting new product to our line-up.  Not only solidifying our presence in the Light SUV segment, but this vehicle will also open the doors to younger buyers looking to upgrade from a smaller hatchback to an SUV”

A date has not yet established a firm date for its arrival, but it has a decent heritage is Suzuki SUVs gone by, are anything to go by. If it is half as fun as Jimny, it could be a goer, depending on price.
