The world of electric vehicles is getting a brand-new badge in Australia, with Inchcape taking the reins as the official distributor for DEEPAL, a “cutting-edge” all-electric brand from China’s automotive giant, CHANGAN. With the ink still drying on the contract, DEEPAL is set to make its grand debut in Q4 2024, with Cormac Cafolla  as the first General Manager and the DEEPAL S07 as the first model.

In case you’re wondering, this isn’t just another cookie-cutter EV. The S07 has typical Chinese “futuristic” styling with clean curves and crisp edges, all wrapped around a luxurious-looking, tech-filled interior. The brand wants owners to think of it as an intelligent mobility companion rather than a simple car. With its advanced electric platform and digital ability, it’s designed to bridge the gap between human experience, nature, and tech, making driving an all-electric dream. But that that claim is also made of every new model that comes to market and only a drive will give it a proper shakedown.

Deepal is only one of a dozen Chinese brands that have appeared recently or will arrive before the end of the year. Colin Christie, Inchcape Australasia’s head honcho, couldn’t be more excited about the partnership. “We are pleased to welcome DEEPAL to the local market and look forward to offering Australian consumers a range of all-electric vehicles that deliver a compelling combination of style, performance and innovative technology.
“As we continue to diversify and grow our local distribution portfolio, the DEEPAL distributorship in Australia further demonstrates Inchcape’s commitment to delivering on our Accelerate strategy and strengthening our global presence as the undisputed number one distribution partner of choice.”

And it’s not just a one-way street. CHANGAN’s Asia-Pacific president, Mr. Shen Xinghua, is equally pumped about the collaboration. According to him, they’ve had their eyes on Australia for a while and believe DEEPAL is the perfect electric vehicle to capture the market’s attention. We will make that decision once we see the price but the EV market is slowing inching down with Chinese carmakers battling their way to the bottom.

With Inchcape’s local market knowledge (recently axing the 100 year Citroen sales run) and DEEPAL’s R&D powerhouse, this partnership looks set to shake up Australia’s EV landscape. Expect to see a lot more of DEEPAL as they aim to transform cars from transport tools into futuristic, intelligent machines. Those ready to ditch the petrol pump for good may find the DEEPAL S07 fills the bill.

Full review and test drive coming soon to gaycarboys.com, of course. Keep your eyes peeled—this EV is about to make waves, and we can’t wait to dive in.
