The skeptics can officially pack it in. While some were busy questioning if a compact EV could actually lead a market, the Geely EX2 spent 2025 proving them wrong. It didn’t just top the EV charts, it was the best selling vehicle across every single category in China. With 465,775 units shifted in a year, it beat every petrol, hybrid, and electric rival on the grid.
The “too small” and “too cheap” crowd clearly missed the memo. This hatch has spent seven straight months moving over 40,000 units, even cracking the 50,000 mark in September. That isn’t just a lucky streak, it is a total market takeover.
The nay sayers always fall back on the same tired arguments about range and build quality. Geely responded by putting the EX2 on its Global Intelligent Electric Architecture, the same high tech platform found in its premium models. It is a rear wheel drive setup with an 85kW motor that provides a punchier, more engaging drive than the front wheel drive competition.
For those claiming compact cars lack utility, the EX2 is a masterclass in packaging. Despite its footprint, it boasts a 2650mm wheelbase, which is nearly as long as the much larger EX5 SUV. That space translates to 36 smart storage spots, including a 70 litre frunk and a 10 litre passenger drawer. It isn’t just a car, it is a mobile storage unit that actually fits in a city parking spot.
The tech inside is another win over the doubters. Critics used to say affordable meant basic, but the EX2 comes with a 14.6 inch HD screen and a 540 degree transparent chassis view. It has features that cars double the price are still trying to figure out.

As it gears up for an Australian launch in late 2026, the EX2 is walking in with a trophy cabinet full of global awards and a sales record that speaks for itself. It is the entry level EV that refuses to act like one. The competition should be nervous, and the critics should probably start looking for a new hobby.
