Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has had a bumper year. Obviously, Rolls-Royce buyers didn’t get the memo about hard times ahead, with 6,032 cars and SUVs finding homes. Rolls-Royce is adding 180 jobs to the Goodwood crew, and the Bespoke department is running over-time.
The big buyers are from the USA and China, of course. Highlights include Wraith and Dawn finishing production, and Spectre starting its run. The first electric Rolls-Royce promises to signal a bright future for a company that prides itself on tradition wrapped in divine luxury. After all, Rolls-Royce is the Rolls-Royce of motor cars, right? Did you see what I did there?
If you have the money, you can have anything in your motor car, as long as it comes out of the Rolls-Royce factory. In fact, “factory” doesn’t do the facility justice.

Buyers can visit a “Private Office” where access to Rolls-Royce’s designers allows a level of customisation rarely seen in any industry, let alone the automotive industry. The client could specify scented fragrance capsules as seen in the Phantom Syntopia. The technology comes from the medical industry, yet can be found in the headrest of a car. Perhaps mother-of-pearl inlays for ‘The Pearl Cullinan’ is more your thing. The Black Badge Cullinan Blue Shadow had hand-perforated leather seats, and the Starlight Headliners in the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis come with celestial animations. For someone wanting something a bit different, there are hand-painted Gallery artworks for Phantom ‘Inspired by Cinque Terre’.
It is not just leather and paint that come in for special treatment, buyers can also have a unique coach-built body. The Droptail-style body for example, will only ever be seen in four cars.
It is hard to believe, but as with many other brands, the SUV has taken the lead. Cullinan is the most popular model, with Ghost close behind, but the glorious Phantom will always be THE Rolls-Royce.
