Hyundai launched IONIQ 6 Electrified Streamliner on a digital world premiere film (see below)

IONIQ 6 promises a 610 km range (WLTP) and ultra-fast, 400-V/800-V charging thanks to the group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

Hyundai Australia confirms IONIQ 6 will enter the Australian line-up in 2023 with pricing and features similar to those already seen in the  hugely successful IONIQ 5.

“IONIQ 6 is the next ambitious step forward in Hyundai Motor’s strategy to accelerate its transition to electrification and into a position as a global leader in EVs,” said Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor Company. “The IONIQ 6 Electrified Streamliner will provide a unique and distinctive experience for drivers and passengers, optimized in every way to redefine electric mobility.”

Spacious Cabin

The electrified streamliner uses the E-GMP to its best, with a 2,950-mm wheelbase, on either 20-inch or 18-inch wheels. It is 4,855 mm long, 1,880-mm wide and 1,495-mm high. The stunning shape looks to be inspired by the gorgeous 130 sedan, but the increased size and flat floor give the interior a cavernous look and feel.

“IONIQ 6 is designed and engineered to seamlessly enhance our daily lives as space to awaken your potential,” said Thomas Schemera, Executive Vice President, Global Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Customer Experience Division, Hyundai Motor Company. “The innovative interior is meticulously thought out as a cocoon-like personal space, enhanced with the latest technologies to create a safe, fun, and stress-free driving experience. The spacious interior, with sustainability and usability at its heart, once again represents a step forward for electric vehicles, in line with the values of our customers.

IONIQ 6’s cabin has Dual Color Ambient Lighting, using 64 colors with six pre-selected themes. To add drama, the brightness changes depending on speed.

There are optional Relaxation Comfort Seats in the front, but all of its seats are unique to EV models, being 30 percent thinner compared to ICE cars, adding to the sense of space.

Ports include 4 type-C and 1 type-A USB.

IONIQ 6’s drive modes change steering feel, motor power, accelerator pedal sensitivity and driveline mode. Nothing it more than a few clicks away

IONIQ 6 also has e-ASD, a technology adds sounds to the cabin based on how the car is being driven, since there is no engine noise to speak of.

“IONIQ 6 connects an emotional convergence of functionality with aesthetics,” said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center. “The distinctive streamlined design is the result of close cooperation between engineers and designers, with obsessive attention to detail and customer-centric values at the core. We have created the IONIQ 6 as a mindful cocoon that offers personalized place for all.”

Engine, power, Battery, and charging

IONIQ 6 is has several driveline options:

Long-range – 77.4-kWh battery comes as a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD). The dual motor is AWD with a stonking 239 kW/605 Nm, and gets from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.

Standard – 53-kWh standard battery has an 18” tyre and RWD, using around 14 kWh/100 km, WLTP. Hyundai claims IONIQ 6 is one of the most energy-efficient vehicles in the market.

IONIQ 6’s E-GMP sues both 400-V and 800-V charging, with 800-V charging as standard without needing extra cables. A 350-kW charger takes IONIQ 6 from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes, again comparable to IONIQ 5.

As seen in IONIQ 5 , there is vehicle-to-load (V2L) enabling charge any electric devices. Imagine your power goes out at home, you can run a very long extension cord to your fridge. You could also use it camping, or on outdoor projects. The V2L uses an accessory adaptor plugged into the outside charging port. There is a 2nd outlet underneath the back seat for charging laptops, phones and other devices.

Empowering technology and purposeful features

IONIQ 6’s dashboard uses 2 12” screens, a touch screen for infotainment and another for the digital driver’s cluster.

IONIQ 6’s infotainment system optimises your route to best use your battery, and to find charging should you need it..

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and bluetooth multi-connection allows 2 devices paired at the same time, one for phone calls and one for music streaming. There are 8 Bose speakers, including a subwoofer, and Bluelink® Infotainment/Map updates.

Driver assistance

IONIQ 6 uses next level Hyundai SmartSense, Hyundai’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, ensuring safety and convenience on the road.

Active lane and cruise control keep a set distance from all vehicles, including those at the side. Above certain speeds, operating the turn signal switch automatically changes the lane in the indicated direction.

Smart Cruise Control (SCC) learns the driver’s style while inactive, then mimicks the learned driving style when switched on.

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) detects vehicles and other objects including cyclists and pedestrians to prevent collision by braking. It similarly looks at intersections for cross traffic etc.

Depending on trim level, enhanced features include:

  • Junction Crossing Assist
  • Lane-Changing Oncoming and Lane-Changing Side along with Evasive Steering Assist
  • Intersection Assist
  • Lane change assist
  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), which adjusts vehicle speed to match the speed limit
  • High Beam Assist (HBA),
  • Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
  • Leading vehicle alert
  • Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) includes leaving p’llel parking spots
  • Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) displayed in driver’s screen
  • Safe Exit Warning (SEW),
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2) for parallel, perpendicular, and diagonal parking.
  • Surround View Monitor (SVM)
  • Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA)
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA)

OTA  Updates

IONIQ 6 Over-the-Air (OTA) Software Updates include those needed for various controllers.
