Convert your Classic Mini to EV with JAUNT Motors
The one thing that puts people off classic car motoring is the moody electrics, but chronically crabby mechanicals come a close second, so Mini and Fellten Australia will give a classic Mini an all-electric powertrain.
The first classic Mini in Australia to get the treatment is a 1995 Mini Rover. It keeps all the spirit and feeling of the original, and adds a bolt-in electric drive pack and a new BMH front subframe. The smallish 19kWh battery and 72kW Zonic motor keep the weight within cooee of the classic Mini, while making sure the handling is not ruined.
The converted Mini EV has a single-speed gearbox, a WLTP range of 175km, and a 0-100km/h of a relaxed 8 seconds. Unlike many conversions, the Mini EV has regenerative braking, City and Sport driving modes, and a Type 2 charge port.
I learned to drive in many classic Minis, new at the time of course, and still have fond memories of them today. There are those who will pooh-pooh the EV conversion, but I for one, will not miss the Mini conking out at the first hint of a puddle. I’ll miss the fabulous exhaust note, but that’s about it.
Fellten is known for making EV conversion systems for classic cars including Minis, Land Rover, and 911, and are sold under the Jaunt brand.

ABOVE: Fellton and Mini Australia Team up for a Classic Mini EV conversion – Jaunt Motors
General Manager of MINI Australia, Matt Schmidt:
“Our iconic heritage is intrinsic to the character of the MINI brand, and this will continue to inspire and influence our direction even as we transition to offer a fully electric line-up by the beginning of 2030.”
“We are proud to work with Fellten on a project that seamlessly preserves the beloved elements of our past while pointing towards our exciting, all-electric future.”
Fellten’s Chief Product Officer, Dave Budge:
“Never has the topic of electromobility been so relevant, particularly in Australia where EV adoption rates are still in its infancy and there is an opportunity to shape the mindset toward considering sustainable transport,” he commented.
“We are excited to be working with MINI Australia on converting this classic collectible which takes something we all know and love and transforming it into a catalyst for conversations surrounding sustainable mobility solutions.”
The 1995 Mini Rover conversion was finished in August 2023. The local project took cues from the MINI Recharged program, which created a one-off classic Mini Electric for the New York Auto Show. The huge public reaction prompted the formation of a crew at the Plant Oxford to offer the same chance to existing owners of one of the world’s favourite cars.
