Bruce McLaren formed company in 1963. The group makes the familiar supercars like the 540C we reviewed in 2018, and the F1 cars currently driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

McLaren has always done things with flair, an instead of a couple of limp firework displays, a couple of hybrid Arturas drifted, not something most of us would ever get that excited about. In this case, as the smoke and noise swirled around the dancing McLaren in their beautifully choreographed ballet, McLaren was doing something a bit special. The skid marks formed the numbers “60” inscribed on the surface, so yes, it was a little bit special.

McLaren, headquartered in Woking, Surrey, UK, has had many firsts such as the widespread use of carbon fibre. They company also uses high-end partners like Ashurst, Bowers & Wilkins, Gulf, Pirelli, Plan International, Richard Mille and Tumi.

The 567kw/718Nm Artua uses a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine with an E-motor and energy-dense battery pack, weighing in at 1,395kg all up. Power per tonne is 359kw/tonne gets the McLaren Artura a 0-100 of 3 seconds, and on to 200km of 8.3 seconds.

McLareni introduced lightweight and strong carbon fibre chassis into Formula 1 with the McLaren MP4/1. 1993 saw that chassis enter road service with the McLaren F1. McLaren was the first with a hybrid supercar, but no walk down memory lane would be complete without the track-only Senna GTR.

Other notable McLaren models include the 2019 600LT Spider, with the 620R and Elva coming the next year. The 750S is the most powerful series-production McLaren, and was recently unveiled.
