MG Motor Australia has entered into partnership with the 2024 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade as its official auto partner.

The glittering parade, once a protest against bigotry, hatred, and police brutality, is now one of Australia’s largest community events. In fact, it is now one of the world’s biggest LGBTQI gatherings, minus the actual (environmentally unfriendly) glitter. Mardi Gras is now environmentally aware, more positive news.

Corporate sponsorship is a symbiotic arrangement demonstrating a desire to end discrimination, flying the company flag at the same time. While it allows corporations to show community support, Mardi Gras has grown and couldn’t continue without government and corporate assistance. As we move ahead, the government and business worlds will move with us.

What is MG

Apart from having the same abbreviation as Mardi Gras, MG started in Oxford as a sideline by William Morris of Marris cars fame, and partner Cecil Kimber. Morris Garages retailed automobiles before becoming its own brand.  MG is an old brand that is as British as pork pies, Buckingham Palace, and the callsign “Speedbird.” MG’s 100-year history has seen the brand pass through many hands, aits current custodian being the Chinese state-owned SAIC.

“At MG Motor Australia, we are honoured to partner with the 2024 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade as the official auto partner to honour the important impact the LGBTQIA+ Community has had in Australia and globally,” says MG Motor Australia Chief Executive Peter Ciao. “As we commemorate 100 years of automotive excellence, this partnership symbolizes our ongoing commitment to celebrating diversity, inclusion, and the limitless possibilities of the future”, he added.

2024 Mardi Gras Sponsorship

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras CEO Gil Beckwith said, “MG Motor Australia joining us as the official auto partner is a testament to our shared vision of a diverse and inclusive future. Their support fuels our journey towards a brighter tomorrow, marked by love and acceptance. It’s partnerships like these that drive positive change, steering us towards a Mardi Gras Parade that celebrates every individual’s right to be themselves.”

2024 Mardi Gras Parade travels Sydney’s famous Oxford Street, passing some of the best known and loved gay night spots, the very reason Mardi Gras exists.

MG Motor Australia started only a few short years ago and is now one of the fastest growing auto retailers. The 2024 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade “reaffirms the brand’s dedication to driving positive change and shaping a future where everyone is free to express their true selves,” according to an MG spokesman.
