Polestar, is known for the Polestar 2, an all electric sedan/fastback/coupé/SUV. Like its short-lived sibling, the Polestar 1 hybrid, Polestar 2 is made in China. Production is set to spread with the announcement of the commencement of its luxury SUV production, the Polestar 3, in South Carolina, USA. Polestar 3 will be the first Polestar to be produced on two continents.
The United States factory will assemble cars for US and Europe buyers, with the Chengdu, factory in China taking care of other markets.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s CEO, said: “Manufacturing Polestar 3 in the USA is a crucial step for us. Now we offer customers in America an electric SUV that is built in America. Exporting the South Carolina produced Polestar 3 to Europe will strengthen our business on a broader scope. Polestar 3 has received superb reviews from global automotive media, with strong customer test drive interest.”

In addition to Polestar production in China and the USA, Polestar 4 will be assembled in South Korea from the middle of 2025.
Polestar was originally spun off as a stand-alone brand after being Volvo’s performance arm for several years. Although the first model was a hybrid, all subsequent models are electric. Polestar 3 is the upcoming performance SUV which the company claims combines Scandinavian design, cutting edge technology and excellent driving dynamics.
Among its many design features, Polestar 3 has centralised core computing powered by NVIDIA, as well as a cornucopia of advanced safety systems.
Test drives of the Polestar 3 can be seen here with available vehicles delivering from September.
