Smart EVs Earn 5-Star Safety for Mercedes-Benz / Geely Venture

In a move to shoehorn yet another new EV brand into the saturated Australian market, the reinvigorated smart cars have quietly slipped into into Australia with two premium models—the smart #1 and smart #3 sold through LSH Automotive

These SUV-style  electric vehicles (EVs) just earned a stellar 5-star ANCAP safety rating, making them not only eco-friendly but also impressively safe.

ANCAP praised both models for their “high levels of occupant protection” and cutting-edge collision avoidance systems, designed to keep drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists out of harm’s way. It seems smart isn’t just for city slickers; it’s for anyone who values the luxury of Mercedes-Benz design and the latest in EV tech wrapped in a somewhat familiar urban-friendly package.

Both models, the #1 urban SUV and the #3 crossover coupe, hit the Australian market just last month, and they’re already making noise. This latest incarnation of smart comes from a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely Automotive Group, blending German precision with innovative EV technology. With a range of up to 455km and options like high-performance BRABUS dual-motor versions, these new EVs have a little something for everyone—whether you’re a city commuter or a speed demon craving a bit more zest under the bonnet (or, is it “under the floor”?).

If that’s not enough, these smart EVs will be sold exclusively through smart experience centres at LSH Auto’s flagship locations in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. That means you’ll be getting the star treatment from the same folks who are Australia’s leading Mercedes-Benz retailers.

LSH Auto Australia’s Managing Director, John Good, beamed about the ANCAP rating, saying, “Given the focus on quality, advanced design and leading technology that both Mercedes-Benz and Geely share it is no surprise that both the smart #1 and smart #3 have achieved such positive results.”

“We are very confident that in an increasingly competitive Australian market the innovative and premium heritage of smart and the support we can provide will see both new smart models well accepted by those seeking a quality EV ownership experience.”

He’s confident that these stylish EVs will thrive in Australia’s competitive market, offering an ownership experience as premium as the vehicles themselves.

The smart #1 and #3 aren’t just pretty faces with a posh badge. Safety features like blind-spot monitoring, emergency autonomous braking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go are standard fare. And with prices ranging from $54,900 for the smart #1 Pro+ to $70,900 for the zippy smart #3 BRABUS, smart is revving up to be a major player in Australia’s EV market. So, if you’re in the mood for a clever blend of luxury and intelligence, smart might just be the perfect fit.

It looks like going green just extra choice!
