LEXUS’ mother company, Toyota, tardy in the extreme on the EV front, but its luxury offshoot, Lexus will push the boat out of the electrified experience. Lexus’ display at the first-ever Japan Mobility Show later this month will see a conga line of tasty battery-powered concept models. The next-generation battery electric vehicle (BEV) shows the Japanese brand has been hiding its light under a bushel. It already has a couple of tasty EVs in its showroom, the RX and UX elextric.

The theme is an own goal, with “Pushing the Pushing the Boundaries of the Electrified Experience” being its charge, if you’ll pardon the pun. Lexus is not hanging about either, as the concept models will give us a glimpse into the 2026 versions of the LEXUS next-generation BEV.

It seems that dumping the ICE has been the best thing ever to happen to the automotive industry, as brand after brand brings battery beauties onboard. It allows a freedom of design not previously available because electric motors require no drive shaft or exhaust tunnel. The flat floor hides the battery, and the motors can be pushed to where they’re needed.

As expected, concepts display Lexus craftsmanship, mixed with edgy design, and electric technology as it aims to become a BEV-only brand by 2035. It is worth mentioning that European brands like Volvo will be 100% by 2026 in Australia, almost a decade before LEXUS.

There concepts will be augmented by a virtual reality driving simulator, giving show-goers a realistic feel of the next-generation LEXUS BEVs.

To carry the eco-ethos even further, the carbon-neutral society theme extends to Lexus’ stand using a traditional Asian material, bamboo. The material is used throughout the display to mix traditional Japanese beauty with environmentally-friendly, sustainable and functional elements.

Lexus Chief Branding Officer Simon Humphries will lead the presentation of the concept model lineup at 10:30 am on Wednesday October 25.

The Japan Mobility Show will be held at Tokyo Big Sight (Koya-ku, Tokyo) and is open to the public from October 28 through to November 05.
