Volvo has announced Australian pricing and specification of the Volvo C40 Recharge, its second pure electric model.

The C40 Recharge is based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) vehicle platform, and is best thought of as a lower, sleeker, small SUV.

There is a new front design, a new face for electric Volvos. The signature Thor’s Hammer head lights are augmented with LED light technology.

Volvo C40 Recharge comes either in dual and single motor models. Dual motor has a stunning 300kW/660Nm powertrain and all-wheel-drive , with a 0-100km/h in in 4.7 seconds.

Range from the 78kWh lithium-ion battery is around 420km and can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent capacity in 40 minutes from a 150kW DC fast charger.

The single-motor is front wheel drive with 434 kilometres per charge.

The smaller 69kWh battery pack charges from 10 to 80 per cent charge in as little as 32 minutes.

Th cabin has a range of colour options and is also the first Volvo to be completely leather-free.

Like sister company Polestar, Volvo uses blockchain technology to trace where its battery partners source cobalt from to ensure the essential material is ethically extracted.

Like is sister, the XC40 Recharge, C40 Recharge comes Google’s Android operating system. It uses Google apps and services built-in, such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, and can access the Google Play Store. Not only that, the assistant controls some of the car’s functions, and anything else you might have connected to your google account, such as home automation.

Recharge gets software updates over the air through the built-in sim card.

“The future of Volvo Cars is electric, and the C40 Recharge is the first model in Volvo’s history designed as pure electric only,” said Volvo Car Australia Managing Director, Stephen Connor.

“It has the personality of the very popular XC40, but it’s more dynamic with a sleeker profile. It’s a very attractive car for people who are looking for the easy- to-live-with aspects of an SUV with more of a modern statement.

Volvo plans to be completely pure-electric by 2030”.

C40 Recharge dual motor is $82,490, and the single motor costs $74,990. The 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty comes with an 8-year roadside assistance package, 8-year battery warranty and 2-year interval servicing.

C40 Recharge will be available for delivery in Q3, 2022.
