Mercedes-Benz expanded its electric Mercedes-EQ family with the arrival of the EQB, joining the EQA and EQC SUVs. Mercedes Electric range also includes sexy sedans.
EQB’s extra space has flexible packaging that Mercedes says gives buyers fully electric transport with seating for 7, or up to 1600L cargo.
The 2829mm wheelbase is 100 mm longer than EQA, allowing the electric drivetrain and its lithium-ion battery to be in a body with the dimensions of a compact SUV. Despite the extra space EQB has EQA’s driving and parking agility.
Drivetrain
EQB’s electric drivetrain was developed specifically for the Mercedes-EQ compact SUV range.
Noises in EVs are more noticeable in the absence of the sound of a combustion engine, so the drive unit is isolated from the supporting frame.
The 66.5 kWh lithium-ion battery weighs 469 kg, and is divided into several modules distributed under the vehicle floor to create a favourable centre of gravity.
EQB charges a 11 kW from AC (alternating current) charging, or up to 100 kW using DC (direct current) fast charging.
